Ubud is the centre of the ‘cultural tourism’ in Bali. It has attracted visitors interested in Balinese arts ever since Walter Spies was here in the 1930s. Apart from the many places of interest in Ubud it self, there are also numerous temples, ancient sites and interesting craft centers nearby.
Day tours around Ubud are popular. Many nearby attractions are quite difficult to reach by public transport, and finding your way around the back roads isn’t always easy. The more interesting itineraries take in Tampaksiring and Kintamani, Bedugul and Tanah Lot, Goa Gajah, Pejeng and Gunung Kawi.
